“I am 63 years old, and for the past 10 years I have lived with extreme chronic pain caused by Spontaneous Intracranial Hypotension (SIH) — a condition resulting from spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks. SIH occurs when the pressure of the fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord drops too low. Normally, CSF cushions and stabilizes the brain and spine, but when a spontaneous leak develops — meaning the fluid escapes somewhere along the spine without any clear injury or procedure — there’s less support for the brain.

The result is severe and debilitating pain, especially when I am upright.  My symptoms include intense head pressure, eye pain with light sensitivity, blurred vision, cognitive difficulties, tinnitus, dizziness, overwhelming fatigue, muscle stiffness, neck pain, and restricted mobility.  The only relief comes from lying flat for one to four hours — sometimes even longer.

I’ve been under the care of an excellent neurologist and physical therapist who continue to research and adjust my treatments in an effort to relieve my pain.  Over the years, I’ve pursued nearly every option available — including major surgery, multiple invasive procedures, medications, physical therapy, and nutritional guidance — in search of improvement.

Before the CSF leak, I was relatively healthy and enjoyed working out with a personal trainer three times a week.  Unfortunately, the pain from SIH made it impossible to continue exercising.  Then, in January 2025, I received the most wonderful news — I was going to be a grandmother, something I had always dreamed of.  My immediate concern, however, was that I lacked the strength and stamina to help care for this new baby.  I had passed Body by Giuliana Studio many times, and one day, while lying flat recovering from pain, I thought, Maybe this could be the answer — maybe Giuliana could help me get stronger for the baby… 

In April 2025, I reached out to Giuliana, and from the very first call, I knew I had found someone special.  Giuliana was an absolute joy to speak with — warm, professional, and genuinely interested in understanding my health challenges.  She asked thoughtful questions about my medical history, current limitations, and overall goals, and then invited me to a complimentary workout session to see how she could best help.

During our first session, Giuliana conducted a careful and comprehensive evaluation, showing great sensitivity and awareness of my physical limitations.  She immediately put me at ease and designed a plan that focused on strength training, stability, and mobility — all tailored to my specific condition with the goal of being “baby ready”.  I began working with her once a week in April, and she provided constant guidance, encouragement, and adjustments to ensure that every exercise was both safe and effective.

By June, I started noticing meaningful improvements in my overall health and daily function.  My energy increased, my movements became steadier, and the persistent pain that had dominated my life for so long began to ease.  Encouraged by this progress, Giuliana and I increased our sessions to twice a week.

By August, I was training with her three times a week and truly reaping the benefits — my pain levels had decreased significantly, and my stamina returned.  For the first time in years, my quality of life dramatically improved.  I could enjoy time with my family and engage in hobbies again, often staying up until 9:00 p.m. instead of retiring exhausted by 6:30 p.m.  My family and friends noticed the difference — they could see the renewed strength, confidence, and happiness in me.  Even my neurologist remarked on my progress, suggesting that the improvement may be linked to the strength training itself.  The stronger muscles surrounding my spine now act as a natural brace, providing better support to the spine and surrounding tissues — potentially helping protect weak spots in the dura and contributing to my recovery.

Now, in October, I’m thrilled to say my grandbaby is 1 month old and I can care for him with confidence and joy!  Thanks to Giuliana’s expertise, compassion, and commitment, I’ve regained not just strength and mobility — but also independence, resilience, and a renewed sense of hope.
